Browser-based HMI has moved from a differentiator to an expectation. HTML5 operator clients that run on any device with a browser, with nothing to install and no plug-ins to maintain, are now offered by the major platforms, including Ignition Perspective, Siemens WinCC Unified and AVEVA. For new projects, a thick Windows client is increasingly hard to justify.
The harder question is what sits behind the browser. An HTML5 front end on top of a legacy server core and a Windows-only engineering tool is only half a modern stack. Teams are now asking whether the engineering environment itself is web-based, how projects are stored, and how screens behave across tablets, phones and control-room video walls.
There is a practical catch: browser-based clients need periodic compatibility testing as browsers update, and screens designed for a 24-inch monitor rarely work unchanged on a phone. Responsive layout needs to be designed in from the start, not retrofitted.
When we scope Web SCADA work, we now treat device and browser coverage as a requirement in its own right, defining which screens need to work on which devices before any graphics are built.
Services Used
WebSCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition via web technologies) is a modern evolution of traditional SCADA systems. It allows operators to monitor and control industrial processes remotely through web interfaces, offering:
Industry 4.0 with IoT and WebSCADA empowers manufacturers to build smart factories that are agile, efficient, and future-ready. It’s not just a technological upgrade—it’s a strategic transformation.
